EU Citizens can legally work and stay in Spain, other citizens need to apply for a work permit(permiso de trabajo),and residence

permit(NIE), US/CAN,AUS and NZ citizens get a 3 month holiday visa, and then need to apply for the "Permiso de

Residencia", useful information at the Spanish Foreign Office, Inmigration(Ministry of), or the Spanish Embassy in your country.

 

When it comes into buying property, taxes, any legal requirement you may need it´s very common in Spain using Gestorias,

Spanish laws are complicated and they´ll make things much easier for you.

 

For tax affairs visit the Tax Office, further information from the town you want to visit check it´s local "Ayuntamiento", here is the some

examples from Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, they are generally very up to date, you can even pay your local

taxes and parking fines through them!

 

You can apply for your NIE from your local Police Station(in spanish only)

 

EMPADRONAMIENTO

You need to be registered with your Council(Ayuntamiento) to apply for your NIE and other legal matters in Spain, You´ll need your ID/Passport

and your rental agreement. It costs a €1.25 fee.
