Barcelona as a major city offers visitors multiple opportunities, entertainment, cultural exhibitions, and the most important festivals in the country. Districts of Barcelona|Neighbourhoods

Ciutat Vella(Old Town):"Ciutat Vella" it´s the oldest part of Barcelona.

Ramblas de Barcelona

It corresponds to the area of Barcelona's oldest area. Here are the mythical neighborhoods of El Raval, Gotic, Palaus Antics (formed by the unofficial neighborhoods of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina, the Born and Ribera) and Barceloneta. Here we find the best sights of Barcelona, Las Ramblas, the Liceu Güell Palace and many others.

 

Eixample(El Ensanche): Among the old town (Old Town) and former independent villas Sants, Gracia and Sant Andreu de Palomar. Its urban form is characterized by a grid of perpendicular streets in sections of 100 meters designed by the Catalan urban planner Ildefons Cerdà. Encompasses the neighborhoods of Sant Antoni, New Left Eixample, Eixample Old Left, Right Eixample, Sagrada Família and Fort Pienc. It is the most populated district in Barcelona and Spain and brings together the most important ways and avenues of the city as the Paseo de Gracia, Rambla de Cataluña, Plaza Catalunya, Avenida Diagonal, the Calle de Aragon, Gran Via de the Catalan Courts, Balmes Street, the Plaza de la Sagrada Familia and Gaudí Square among others. In this quarter we will also find the Expiatori Temple of the Sagrada Familia.

Sants-Montjuïc: It covers the neighborhoods of the Marina del Prat Vermell, The Port Marina, La Font de la Guatlla, Poble Sec, Hostafrancs, the Bordeta, Sants and Badal.

 

Les Corts: Les Corts is the fourth district of Barcelona, and the third smallest district. The district has its origins in the ancient town of Las Corts de Sarrià, independent of Sarria in 1836, both annexed to the city of Barcelona by a decree of aggregation in 1899.

 

Sarrià-Sant Gervasi: The district of Sarria-Sant Gervasi is the fifth in the ten districts that is administratively divided the city of Barcelona, is situated on the western edge of town. Much of the territory of this district is based on Collserola Mountain Range.

 

Districte de Gràcia(Grácia District): It is the smallest district of Barcelona and one of the most crowded and full of attractions, the most attractive cultural and tourist district of Gracia is undoubtedly the Park Güell, the admired works of Antoni Gaudí. Still, the lively streets of Gracia, with its bars, restaurants and shops make the district one of the most attractive in the city. Gracia retains the character of an independent municipality despite over a hundred years ago is part of Barcelona.

 

Horta-Guinardó: The district of Horta-Guinardó is the third in extension of Barcelona, and only surpassed by the Sants-Montjuic and Sarria-Sant Gervasi. It is located in the northeastern sector of the city, between the districts of Gràcia and Nou Barris.

 

Nou Barris(Nueve Barrios): Located at the north end of town, the name

of this district began in 1984 when the Barcelona City Council adopted a new territorial division of the city, using the name of the magazine's first neighborhood association in the area in the early seventies. There is the fact that an important part of Nou Barris was within the former "Nine Districts"(Nou Barris), together with part of the current district of Sant Andreu. One of the most imposing buildings in the district was originally called the Insane Asylum of the Holy Cross, and more recently known until its closure in 1986 as Institute of Mental de la Santa Creu, the current district headquarters. The original building designed by Dr. Emili Pi i Molist and by the architect Josep Oriol Bernadette (1811-1860) was one of the most brilliant examples of "moral" Asylum architecture in Europe.

 

Sant Andreu: Situated north of the city, is bounded by the river Besós

Besós, between Barcelona and Sant Adria Santa Coloma, and district of Nou Barris(9 Districts), Horta-Guinardó and Sant Martí. Its population is estimated at about 170,000, of which 52,000 are in the old town of Sant Andreu. Sant Andreu district is the third in extension of Barcelona.

 

Sant Martí: The district of Sant Marti is the tenth of the ten districts. Until 1716, San Martin de Provensals was a parish of Santa Maria del Mar. Until that date and as a result of the Decree of Nueva Planta became an Independent town until 1897 when he was added as a district of the city of Barcelona.

The Temple of the Sagrada Familia, simply known as the Sagrada Familia is a large Catholic church in Barcelona, designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi it began to be built in 1882 and is still under construction.

Born June the 25th, 1852 is the highest representative of Catalan modernism. He had a strong intuition and creative ability, Gaudí conceived his buildings in a holistic manner, taking both structural solutions such as functional and decorative ways. Studied to the smallest detail his creations, architecture integrating a range of crafts that he mastered to perfection: ceramics, glass, iron forging, carpentry, etc.. It also introduced new techniques in the treatment of materials, such as his famous "trencadis" made with pottery waste.

 

Las Ramblas-Les Rambles

This emblematic Barcelona walk is always full of people, artists, musicians, kiosks, flowers.. It runs from the Plaza de Catalunya to the old port (Portal de la Paz Square(Plaza), where is located the famous statue to Christopher Columbus.

 

Torre Agbar

Is located between Avenida Diagonal and Calle Badajoz, The Agbar Tower was designed by the architect Jean Nouvel. It has 145 meters high and 34 stories (plus four levels below ground), becoming, at the time it opened in June 2005 the third tallest building in Catalunya, after the Hotel Arts and Torre Mapfre. This belongs to the Agbar Tower, a holding company consisting of over 230 companies.
