The island's most western and smallest of the Canary Islands, this paradise´s is the municipality of Valverde. Its highest point is at the Malpaso peak in the center of the island. El Hierro is the most densely island volcanoes in the Canary Islands, more than 500 open craters and 300 covered by more recent lava flows. Currently there are 70 caves and volcanic tubes documented, highlighting the Cave of Don Juso with 6 kilometers long. The estimated age of El Hierro is 1.2 billion years old, it would be the youngest of the Canary Islands. El Hierro currently has about 11000 inhabitants. Its spectacular landscape has made this island a Reserve of the Biosphere by UNESCO.

The Julán Slopes: The Julan Slopes it´s a isolated area on the island in southern slope of El Hierro (Canary Islands, Spain) in which notes the recent volcanic activity of the island: it is a steep hillside shaded by cliffs.

Orchilla´s Lighthouse: Located in the town of El Pinar, on the tip of Orchilla, is the largest civil building of the island, it was referenced by the old cartography mapping as the meridian 00. It was lighted for the first time in 1933, providing the sailors a steady red light with white flashes every 5 seconds.
Valverde: Valverde belongs to the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and it´s the capital of the island. It is the only capital town of the Canary Islands which is not on the seashore

This Nature Reserve is made of two tiny islands, the Roque Grande, and Roque Chico, located in the municipality of Frontera. These "rocks" are a protected area and fauna by the Canary Islands government. Some of the protected species are the Petrel Bulwer and the endemic giant lizard of El Hierro (Gallotia Lizard), who used to live across the island, and currently confined to living in the islets.

This small and beautiful island produced cereals, cheese, fruit and wine. Hierro cheese is characterized by a mixture of milk, livestock and beef products from quality local produce greatly enrich the local cuisine. The most important tradition of El Hierro is the Bajada de la Virgen de los Reyes, held every four years the first Saturday of July. During the traditional party the patron saint of the island is moved from its sanctuary in La Dehesa(La Frontera) to the capital of the island, Valverde, making a journey of 44 miles that cuts across all areas of the Island.

Being the smallest canarian island is not without its charismatic beaches. Beaches from El Hierro have spectacular ocean beds, clean and clear waters.

This is a quiet beach in the municipality of Valverde, water is very clean and quiet, not much often visited but ideal for a day´s rest.
Playa de Las Playas: This quiet volcanic beach has calm waters, ideal to go with children.
Playa Puerto de la Estaca: This is a quiet beach in Valverde, not often visited, it´s located near the harbour and it´s used as a refuge by the fishermans.
Playa Tamaduste: This is a small and quiet beach. It has crystal clear waters and dar volcanic sand. We can go by bus towards Valverde or if we go by car we have to go towards Tamaduste.
Arenas Blancas Beach:
It is located 3km from the beach of El Verodal. It is not crowded, quiet and virtually virgin waters with low current, which also makes it an ideal place to just rest and sunbathe without anyone bothering us.

Playa El Verodal: In the town of Frontera, near the Orchilla´s lighthouse we will find El Verodal which is the longest of El Hierro. The beauty of the beach is the redish colour it fades from the sand.
La Maceta: These natural pools are found in the village of La Maceta, in the Gulf Valley(Valle del Golfo), and they are 3 natural pools suitable for bathing. In the same area there are some interesting restaurants with traditional recipes from the island.
Charco Azul: These other natural pools are ideal for swimming too, entry is free.
Charco de los Sargos: Just between the pools of La Maceta and Charco Azul is one of the wonders of the island of El Hierro, we speak about Charco de los Sargos. It´s a small beach that hangs from a sheer wall, giving shape to different pools of salty seawater, which have been cleared for swimming. Enjoy this beautiful beach in a wild volcanic landscape.
