"Lanzarote was the most beautiful place on earth for me, .. I decided to show the beauty of Lanzarote to the world .."
Cesar Manrique
The most representative objects of craftsmanship of Lanzarote are the pieces of pottery and ceramics made from clay. The pottery of Lanzarote is a very ancient tradition, when the former farmers of this island had to manufacture their own crafts for their needs.
Crafts in Lanzarote are linked to sexuality and fertility of the couples, the most representative example comes from the people of northern Lanzarote in the town of El Mojon, with the "Mojon bridal couple". The weaving was also one of the crafts of Lanzarote. Today we see a loom and a workshop in the Home Museum and the Agricultural Museum in Lanzarote.
The color that distinguishes Lanzarote and its architecture are the white walls and the blue on the doors of the houses. The white of the houses in Lanzarote functions as a mirror to the sun's rays and does not allow the temperature inside to increase. The facades of the houses are inclined sought to collect water from the sparse rainfall in a stone tank. The great defender of tradition and architecture of Lanzarote was Cesar Manrique, who convinced the people of the island to continue using wood and not tearing down old houses. The government at the time welcomed the measures. In Lanzarote we will not see billboard advertising on the roads, which still will makes us see the beauty of Lanzarote.
