Pyramids of Guimar

What to visit

Guimar is located in a valley or depression which, according to most geologists, is a product of volcanic material collapsed into the sea. Güímar Municipality has two distinct parts whose physical separation is the slope of Guimar, precisely the limit of marine collapse, these two parts are the Guimar Valley itself and the Shire of Agache. The southern boundary is the Herques ravine, which forms the border with the municipality of Fasnia; the boundary with the municipality of Arafo, north, consists of an approximation to the median of the lava flow produced by volcanic eruption in 1706, one of the historical eruptions in Tenerife, which like all lava flows of the islands runs from the summit of Teide in the sea, although in this case the trajectory did not reach the ocean, but that ended about three hundred yards from shore. The coast is traversed from south to north by an underground volcanic rift that has given the coast (like the rest of the south coast of the island) a morphology formed by volcanic eruptions that have produced major volcanic edifices by the accumulation of lapilli (rock known in the Canaries as picon). ..more..
