Tenerife
El Pijaral, Sta Cruz de Tenerife
This is a very steep slopes with high stockings and low accessibility, which contains very important signs of fayal laurel in excellent condition. Located in the municipality of Santa Cruz and access to the site can be made directly from the TF-123, south of the reservation, or for different paths and tracks. The area is considered as a Special Area for protected birds..
In this space we can find representations of natural vegetation typical from the Canary Islands in a magnificent condition (with areas of well-preserved laurel, cactus-Tabaibal large or small samples of juniper, etc.), with many local and protected species of the island. Likewise, this type of relict flora is of particular interest for being related to the former African vegetation.
In this place there are many birds and species protected by the Canary Government. It is one of the most emblematic spots of the Canaries. These two islands of 10 hectares of surface, outside and inside, the latter linked to Tenerife by a tongue of sand visible when there is low tide. The Roque de Dentro is the largest summit to exist in a drago forest. In Roque de Fuera lives a colony of giant lizards and two treasured variety of native flora. They have also been classified as Special Protection Area for Birds.
This is a well-preserved canarian habitat. I forms a slope of interesting flora communities where there is no shortage of threatened and protected species such as tagines (Echium giganteum) and mint. This reserve will be found in Tenerife municipality of La Orotava.
