Gijón is 27km from Oviedo, it´s a coastal industrial town and a municipality in the autonomous community of Asturias in Spain. Early mediaeval texts mention it as "Gigia". It was an important regional Roman city, although the area has been settled since the earliest in history. The name was originally applied to a small peninsula presently referred to as Cima de Villa, literally "top of the shire," between two beaches, Poniente and Arbeyal, one of which has a recreational port today.
Gijón has an Atlantic with warm summers, and cold and rainy winters.

International Trade Fair of Asturias (FIDMA): This is an annual event held at the fairgrounds Luis Adaro de Oviedo(Asturias, Spain) that serves businesses to show trade and services Asturias. Held in August.
Antroxu(Carnival): custumes, charangas... pasacalles, the famous d'Antroxu parade(Carnival), celebrated in Febrero.
Semana Grande(The Big Week): Held during the first two weeks of August, it´s in the 2nd when we celebrate the "semanona" , free concerts and festivals.
Natural Cider Fest: This feast is of importance at a regional level in Asturias, held on the last weekend of August, where markets are installed, cider samples, and Asturian folklore.
Semana Negra de Gijón: Crime Fiction Festival, which has grown over more than 20 editions. It takes place from the second Friday of the month of July until Sunday next week, lasting about 10 days. Festival de Cine de Gijón: The Gijón Film Festival is held annually in Gijón and dating back to 1963. It was first organized by the City Council of Gijon and today is one of the major international contests held in Spain. Web
In this beautiful part of Spain the beaches are clean and not as crowded as it is in the souther region.

Within the classical Asturian food, the main dish are the "fabes"(strong beans), whether in the well-known bean stew with compango(chorizo, sausage and ham) clams and crab. All will be accompanied by a traditional Asturian cider.
Both day and night life of Gijon are restless. The night spots we find them in the area of Fomento, the Arena or in Nautico ideal places for tapas and drinks. The main streets are the St. Bernard, The Moors, Corrida, Covadonga Valdes Menendez, Magnus Blikstad, where we can go shopping and enjoy the day.
The A-66 motorway (Ruta de La Plata), A-8 (Autopista del Cantábrico) and the AS-1 (Autovía Minera) are the main highway accesses to Gijón. By train, Gijón has daily service to Madrid, Alicante, Zaragoza, and Barcelona.
Cruise ships call at El Musel, and the Airport of Asturias is located not far away in the municipality of Castrillón with daily flights to major Spanish and European cities.
Buses: Gijón has 30 bus lines that will take us to anywhere in town.
Cycle lanes in Gijón: In Gijon we find different bike lanes to travel by bicycle. We find the bike lanes in Constitution Avenue, Calle Velázquez Rodríguez Sampedro. Also in Karl Marx Avenue (which included a roundabout which connects two avenues, that of Portugal and Carlos Marx) was built a bike path that leads from Gijón to the bike lane of Avenida Constitutción.
Railway: RENFE and FEVE connect the city with the rest of Asturias and Spain. The Railway Station is located in Jovellanos
