There are several hypotheses about the possible origin of the name Jaén, it may come from the Latin name "Gaien" through "Jayy" Arabic form that was used commonly during the Muslim period. This province is one of the largest producers of olive oil in Spain and abroad. It is located in the interior area of Andalucia, north of the province, between their municipalities stands Linares, Úbeda and Alcala de la Real. The city of Jaen stands at the foot of Cerro de Santa Catalina, steep streets and steep slopes define the town´s planning, dispatched to the most extensive plain and new districts and boulevards. Surrounded by many fertile agricultural land and extensive olive groves finding peace in the Guadalquivir valley. To the south and the southeast of Jaén we can find the Sierras de Jaén (Jaén Valleys) and Jabalcuz, that shelters the city from winds and storms, north of Jaén there is the Guadalbullón river plain, which passes a short distance from the city. The climate of Jaen, even Mediterranean, is very cold in winter and hot in summer.
