Asturias
This northern province of Spain is a mountainous coastal community, bordered to the the west by Galicia, Cantabria to the east, and south by Castile and Leon. Its main towns are Gijón and Oviedo.
Among his industry is still significant coal mining, but does not have the dominant role it had in former times.
The Principality of Asturias(Principado de Asturias)is an autonomous community within the kingdom of Spain, former Kingdom of Asturias. It is located on the Spanish north coast facing the Cantabrian Sea, or Bay of Biscay. The most important cities are the provincial capital, Oviedo, the seaport and largest city Gijón. We can fly directly to Asturias from Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, or London, which can be fairly reasonable when we buy the ticket in advance. Asturias airport is located near the town of Avilés, and we can easily get there by bus from the three main towns of Gijón, Oviedo and Avilés.

Asturias has a rich historical legacy, with it´s own (Asturian Art), with monuments such as Santa Maria del Naranco, Santa Cristina de Lena and San Miguel de Lillo of romanesque style, all of them in Oviedo.

In the municipality of Villaviciosa are the church of San Salvador de Valdediós and the Church of San Salvador de Priesca. In the asturian municipality of Cabranes we have to mention San Julián de Viñon. Romanesque art is very present all over Asturias as it is crossed by the Jacobean Routes to Santiago, in Galicia. Good examples of Romanesque art is the monastery of San Pedro de Villanueva near Cangas de Onis, the churches of San Esteban de Aramil in Siero, San Juan de Amandi (Villaviciosa) and Santa Maria de Junco in Ribadesella. The Gothic style is not abundant, but there are some good examples of this style as the cathedral of San Salvador in Oviedo.
Natural Park of Redes: The Redes Natural Park is located in the central mountain area - East, covering the municipalities of Case and Sobrescobio.
It was declared a such in 1996 with the aim of protecting their natural and scenic values.

seems to have been formed by ice and water, it´s local culture is still linked to rural daily life, and its surrounding villages you can enjoy and have a taste of the local cheese. It was one of the first national parks declared a such in 1918 in Spain. It is located east of Asturias and it´s accessible from Cangas de Onis to the area of the Lakes and Covadonga Basilica, or from the Port of Pontón(N-637) for the Valdeón sector. The highest peaks are the Urrieles mountains with over 2600 meters. Cantabrian brown bears, Iberian lynxes and wolves live in the remote regions. Rebeccos are fairly frequently seen, Choughs and Buzzards are common, various eagles and vultures are frequently seen and there is a diverse butterfly population in the park. The Picos de Europa contain many of Spain's deepest caves, including Torca del Cerro (−1589 m), Sima de la Cornisa (−1507 m), Torca los Rebecos (−1255 m) and Pozo del Madejuno (−1252 m). Discovery of new caves and their exploration still continues.

Ponga Natural Park(Asturias): Located in the central area of the Cantabrian Mountains, here are preserved large amount of forests in which we outline the Natural Reserve of Peloño.
Muniellos Natural Reserve(Asturias): It is the largest oak forest in Spain and one of the best preserved in Europe, it hosts a variety of beautifull nature.

Covadonga: Covadonga it´s an important town and tourist spot for many spanish in Asturias. Covadonga it´s part of the National Park of Picos de Europa. It´s historical heritage it´s one of the most visited in Spain. In the "Santa Cueva", or Holy Cave we can find the image of Virgen de Covadonga. The town it´s a treasure itselve to discover. Covadonga it´s an 84km drive from Gijón, and another 84km from Oviedo.
Andrín: Andrín it´s a town in the municipality of Llanes, in Asturias.
It has a population of about 150 people in 87 homes. It´s about 5,5km from the capital. It´s church it´s dedicated to San Juan Bautista. There is also several more churches and chapels part of the heritage of Andrin. Even though Andrin it´s very much of a country village there is a beach we can visit. Playa de Andrin, or Andrin Beach.
Arenas de Cabrales(Peaks of Europa): Arenas de Cabrales it´s one of the most important entries to the Picos de Europa, or Europa Peaks. It´s a peacefull town in the middle of the Asturian countryside, with a beautifull scenary.
Arriondas: The town of Arriondas it´s capital of the Municipality of Parres and Cuadroveña. It´s about 8km from Cangas de Onís and 65km of Oviedo. The most important event held in Arriondas it´s the International Canoe Descent, held every first saturday of August between Arriondas and Ribadesella, with a 20km travel along the Sella River, wich makes Arriondas Adventure´s capital of Asturias.

Avilés: The town of Avilés it´s about 25km from Gijón and 27km of Oviedo
Avilés Old Town was declared Historical Heritage in 1955. In Avilés there is a very important heritage including the streets such as the Galiana and Rivero, La Ferrería and San Francisco. Also the Palace of Valdecarzana from the XV century, also known as the Baragaña homes, the Camposagrado Home, Ferrera and the Home of Rodrigo García-Pumarino, also known as the Llano Ponte Palace, from the XVII and XVIII centuries.
Also from the 18th century is the Local Council, Plaza Mayor, and the San Francisco Caños. We can also visit the Ceramic Museum, the Alfercam Museum and the Niemeyer Centre. Avilés holds each year the Mar de Ruido Festival(Sea of Sound Festival) where the best of national and international rock and pop bands get toghether.
Ballota(Pueblos de Asturias): Ballota borders are with the town of Cudillero. This small rural town of Asturias is known for the San Patrón Church, San Roque. Along the nearby coat we can also visit some lonely beaches, and long walks along the mountains.

It´s privileged location in Asturias it has many Natural Parks. The south east of Belmonte de Miranda belongs to the Natural Park of Somiedo. The actual islolation of the area helped preserve well the nature surrounding. The historical heritage of Belmonte it´s just as impressive as the natural. The Quintana Tower, from the 15th century, the Cienfuegos Palace, at the river Pigüeñas shores in the country town of Agüerra, it´s a declared historical monument from the 18th century.
The Court House of Belmonte was built in 1926. Belmonte it´s 56km away from Oviedo.
Camango(Asturias): Camargo belongs to the municipality of Asturias. This is a country village with some country hotels where we can stay.
Candás: Candás it´s the most populated area in Carreño, Asturias.
It´s a country town with with very nice places to visit such as the Old City Council Walls, up to the near by beaches of Playa de Candás, and La Taluxa beach, a small beach ideal for fishing and diving, both of them generally not crowded and tranquil waters.
Cangas de Onis: The shire of Cangas de Onis was capital of the Kingdom of Asturias until the year 774, and it´s between the Sella and Güeña Rivers. In between the places we can visit are the Church of Santa Cruz, the Roman Bridge, and the Cortés Palace(Cangas de Onis) from the 18th century. We ccan depart from here to the Picos de Europa(Europa Heights), and of course the Lakes of Covadonga.
Colombres (Ribadedeva): The village of Colombres it´s 136km from the
asturian capital. It´s in the Cantabric Sea coast, near the Deva River, and south of Peñamellera Baja and Llanes(Asturias). The most visited places are the Playa de la Franca(beach), and the Pindal Caves, with paintings discovered in 1909, which have been already declared Human Heritage by the UNESCO. We can also visit the San Emeterio Lighthouse, in working order since 1852.

The Asturian coast with 345 Km's presents a splendid and diverse landscape of beaches, caves and cliffs. Featuring a green landscape, the Asturias beaches are clean, spacious, and we find them all along its coast.

Playa de Andrín: The popular and appreciated Andrín beach it´s dominated by majestic mountains such as The Borbolla mountains.

Climate in Asturias is generally cold and rainy in winter from September up to May, and warm during the summer months from June up to October. Either season we can enjoy stunning beaches with less amount of crowd than in the Costas or southern regions. Winters are just as pleasant doing other activities susch as skiing, climbing, trekking,..
The most famous dish of Asturias is "fabada", a heavy stew made with broad beans, a variety of white bean or bean, accompanied by sausage, black pudding, ham and bacon. There is also a large variety of fresh fish and seafood from the Cantabrian Sea.
