Brief History of Castilla León

You could say that this community is a land of men and history.

The history of this province often leads to confusion with the history of Spain. Castile and Leon was a region that was inhabited by Iberians, Celts and Ligurians. It was later a Roman province, became important under Visigothic rule and was conquered by the Arabs.

The Crown of Castile existed the first time when Ferdinand I inherit the Kingdom of Castile in 1037, and I married Queen Sancha of Leon, and one partner in establishing a nominal union that will break the death of the King. As had been happening in the medieval Leonese traditions, the heritage of the kingdom concept and the absence of a definite hereditary way left to the eldest son and next the second child. The second dynastic union of Castile and Leon will occur during the reign of Alfonso VI of León, to the death of his brother Sancho de Castilla, who had previously divested of their reign of Alfonso León, and the third and final union of the two kingdoms takes place under the reign of St. Ferdinand in 1230, being now king of Castile, after the Pact of the Ladies II which leaves out Sancha and Dulce, daughter of Alfonso IX and heirs of the kingdom, is crowned King of Leon great opposition from the clergy and gentry of Leon. The basis of the dynastic unification of the kingdoms of Castile and Leon, separated only seven decades. It had started in 1194. Alfonso VIII and Alfonso IX in Tordehumos signed the treaty that pacified the area of Tierra de Campos and put the foundations of a future reunification of the kingdoms, established in 1230 with Fernando III "the Saint". This agreement has gone down in history as the Treaty of Tordehumos.

The actual Government of Castile and Leon is one of the oldest parliamentary institutions of Europe.
