Pozalagua Cave

Pozalagua cave is located in the westernmost part of the Biscayan valley of Carranza, under Peña Ranero, and can be visited easily. It´s regarded as unique and special for its wealth of eccentric stalactites. These drawings are curious minglings in all directions. Inside there was a lake, which is now dry, but still worth seeing. The cave was discovered by chance in 1957 and after a long rehabilitation process has been opened to the public so you can admire its beauty.

 

 

Urdaibai Natural Reserve - Bizkaia

The Urdaibai estuary is a natural area formed at the mouth of the Oka River, in the region of Busturialdea. It occupies an area of 220 km ² and has a great ecological diversity that has served to qualify as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO MAB committee in 1984, receiving the name of the Reserve of the Biosphere of Urdaibai. Also known as Mundaka estuary or Guernica. Within Urdaibai National Park in the municipality of Ibarrangelu we will find the amazing Laga beach, one of the most beautiful sandy beaches of the coast of Bizkaia. With its 574 meters of fine golden sand, the beach is open to the sea, so surfers find here a good place to practice their favourite sport.

 

Within the same Natural Reserve, in the municipality of Ibarrangelu, we will find Llaida Beach that has nearly a mile of fine golden sand. It is the largest beach in the estuary of Mundaka, and offers the possibility of a multitude of sports activities: Windsurfing, canoeing, sailing ... From the shores of the beach, across the estuary, you can see the people of Busturia, Pedernales and Mundaka, and if we look far into the sea also we can also see the island of Izaro. The beach is well connected by the county road or of Gernika coming from the area of Lekeito by Ibarrangelua.

Santimamiñe Cave and Oma Forest

The Santimamiñe Cave is a cave located in the town of Kortezubi in Vizcaya. There has been found remains of paintings dating from the Upper Paleolithic. It is considered an icon of Bizcaya culture and its main prehistorical site. It is included in the list of World Heritage of UNESCO since July 2008. Near the cave, we´ll see the forest of Oma, also called the Enchanted Forest of Oma, who is an artistic work done by the basque painter and sculptor Agustín Ibarrola. Is a set of pine trees whose trunks are painted and depending of the location of the observer, they form different shapes.

 

Bizkaia Bridge | Basque Country

The bridge links the town of Portugalete with the district of Las Arenas, which belongs to Getxo, and the two banks of the Bilbao estuary. Its construction was due to the need of linking the existing resorts on both sides of the river, for the industrial bourgeoisie and tourists of the late nineteenth century.

 

Mundaka - The Biggest wave in the World

Mundaka is a sailing town located on the left bank of the mouth of the estuary of Mundaka, northern province of Biscay. Mundaka borders west with the town of Bermeo, with Pedernales to the south, and east and north with the cold Cantabrian Sea. Off its coast lies the island of Ízaro (Bermeo) and the extensive sand lands of Laida. The town has a major fishing and maritime trade.

Surf in Mundaka: The wave of Mundaka is considered one of the best lefts in the world with a length that can reach up to 400m. The town receives in autumn and winter the visit of numerous sport enthusiasts from the remotest parts of the world. Since 1998 has been held in the town of Mundaka the Billabong Pro championship, scoring round for the world championship.

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is a rocky island which is occupied by an old bridge of winding path; visually it has all the appearance of an island, and so the peasants consider of Busturialdea Bermeo fishermen consider it. It is located on the Biscay coast and belongs to the municipality of Bermeo in the Basque Country. On the island there is a chapel dedicated to San Juan, dating from the tenth century, although there´s been some discoveries dating from the ninth century. Along with another small island nearby, Aketze, form a protected area that stretches from the town of Bakio to Cape Machichaco, in the Bay of Biscay.
